One of the biggest shows on TV right now is Americas Next Top Model. Hosted by Tyra Banks, a model herself, the show searches the country for the next big television and movie stars, as well as models. Unfortunately, auditions for the 2011 run were finished on April 10, 2011. They will be resuming auditions for the show in early 2011, and the schedule will be posted then.

Getting on the show is easier said than done. There are literally thousands of contestants, all going after the coveted spot, and the competition can be very fierce. Tyra Banks - Everything You Need To Know

Tyra Banks is an American model, media personality, actress, business women and a singer. She shot to fame as a model in Paris, Milan, London, Tokyo and New York.

Tyra Lynne Banks was born on 4th December 1973 in California to parents Carolyn London and Donald Banks. Her parents separated when she was 6 years old. Banks attended John Burroughs Middle School and later attended Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles graduating in 1991.

She got into modeling while in 11th grade. She went to Paris, to do runway modeling. Her first visit captured the imagination of several designers, as they were pretty impressed the way her presence was felt on the runway and she was booked for 25 shows, which was a record for a newcomer.

She worked for more than 30 fashion and advertising giants like the Chanel, Anna Sui, Coors Light, Christian Dior to name a few. She also was featured on the cover pages of high fashion magazines like Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Cosmopolitan and Elle.

She won the VH1 award for Supermodel of the Year in 1997. She also became the first African American to be featured on the covers of GQ and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and Victoria's Secret catalog. She retired from the modeling career in 2005, walking for the last time on the runway for Victoria's Secret Fashion show. This was a step that she took to concentrate on her television career.
