Kathy Griffin Plastic Surgery

Kathy Griffin Plastic SurgeryComic Kathy Griffin has never been one to keep her plastic surgery under wraps. After potentially fatal complications from a 1999 liposuction, she wrote about it in a women's magazine (the story's headline, "Lipo Sucks!"). Nevertheless, this year, Griffin opted for more remodeling: a nose job in January followed by hair straightening, and an overhaul of her teeth, brows, waist, arms (yes, more lipo), and facial skin in May and June. Griffin, 42, who will host NBC's dating reality show Average Joe in the fall, invited PEOPLE along and talked to Los Angeles deputy bureau chief Elizabeth Leonard about how it all felt-and why her first scare didn't put her off nips and tucks for good.

Kathy Griffin Plastic SurgeryIn 1999, I had lipo from my waist down-my stomach, thighs, and the inside of my knees. The idea was to look like Jennifer Aniston. It didn't work out at all. When I woke up I was not able to pee. I got toxicity and had to go to the emergency room and wear a catheter for a week. It was life-threatening, and the results were nonexistent. In fact, I started running after that and got much better results.

Back then I swore I would never get lipo again. I'm still not saying, "Ladies, go have lipo and get your brows put on a different part of your head! It's a blast!" But I work in an industry where if you don't get a little nip and tuck, a lady of my age is going to end up playing Katie Holmes's great-grandmother in the Dawson's Creek reunion. I'm never going to be Halle Berry, but I want to look as good as I can.

I had my nose done because it was a little big. Unfortunately, I think it looks exactly the same. Then I had the Japanese hair straightening done. I love it! It's a long torturous process, though-like six or seven hours. They play movies for you.

Kathy Griffin's Take on Financial Planning

Kathy Griffin's Take on Financial PlanningKathy Griffin has some wise insight on finances and money management. If you listen to her advice you may find yourself in a much better financial situation and if you don't listen to her advice she my make fun of you on her show someday!

During an episode of My Life on The-D List, Kathy Griffin's reality show, she made wise cracks about actors and actress and their finances. Kathy's comment was that she hates it when she hears actors and actresses say, "I don't do the 'business thing'. I am an actor." Kathy's sarcastic, yet true, remark about why this bothers her is that "business thing" is PART OF YOUR JOB. You need to learn the business end of things. You, as an actor or actress, are your own business and have to run your professional life and personal finances as a business.

Think that doesn't matter to the average Joe? The reason this is such an important point is that it is pertinent to all working people. You spend such a great deal of time working to make money but most spend so little working on how to make that money work for you.

Official Book Club Selection By Kathy Griffin

Official Book Club Selection By Kathy GriffinThere's no fine line. You either love her or hate her.

Two-time Emmy winner and three-time Grammy nominee Kathy Griffin, flame-haired self-appointed denizen of The "D-List," may forever be associated with her much-publicized Emmy Award acceptance speech, in which she concluded, "Suck it, Jesus! This award is my god now!" (On the chance she might win, Griffin had a writer friend pen the speech, a kind of "rebuttal" to the endless stream of winners who thank god while hypocritically living hedonistic lives.*)

She was also famously fired for a joke she perpetuated on the red-carpet in 2005, which she refers to in her book as "Fanning-Gate." Griffin was hired by E! Entertainment Television to "replace" the heavily sequined Joan and Melissa Rivers, who had just been inexplicably awarded an $8 million contract with The TV Guide Channel.

Official Book Club Selection By Kathy GriffinGriffin notes that since she's far from a "fashionista," and a wholly different type of performer, she opted out of "traditional" questions and commentary. She was given the "second" commentator position to blowhard diva Star Jones.

Irked by the "shout-outs" celebrities give each other when one lands in rehab ("It's so brave!"), she decided to perpetuate a prank. Her joke: angelic 10-year-old Dakota Fanning has just entered rehab - do you [random celebrity walking down the carpet] have any words of support for her? While some celebrities clearly got the joke (witty "Will & Grace" star Sean Hayes responded, "Oh Dakota, don't go south... South Dakota!"), others did not. Of course, Griffin relished the media frenzy, and loved when iconic director Steven Spielberg publicly derided her (he was allegedly angry because he thought it would affect audiences for his then upcoming "War of the Worlds.").
